Eurotrash Tour 2026

Netherlands / Belgium bikepacking trip

The first week of June 2026 Jack and I embarked on our first bikepacking trip abroad to The Netherlands and Belgium, loosely planned around the existing route 'A-Cross the 2'.

We met up in our hometown of Norwich to catch the train to Harwich for our overnight ferry to the Hook of Holland.

Arriving in The Netherlands at 8am the next morning, we both had a lot of nervous energy to burn, so we were anxious to set off and get some miles under our belts beneath the drizzly Dutch skies.

I think we did around 50 miles that first day to a campsite on a farm close to the Belgian border where we had our first night in the tents.

Day 2 we had planned for being mainly all off road riding, but after waking up to rain and checking the forecast, we decided against it and got komoot to sort us a route following Belgiums incredible cycling infrastructure, passing through the town of Turnhout to do a little sightseeing and buy a phone charger. We had nearly ridden 70 miles, were back over the border in The Netherlands and feeling pretty knackered when we arrived at the campsite, so I was glad when the first thing the owners did was hand us a beer, have a chat and show us where to pitch.

Day 3 we picked up onto 'A-Cross the 2' route for the entirety of the day and I'm so glad we did as it was the best day's riding of the trip, basically all off road for 50 miles. Luckily we had stopped undercover for a sit-down meal and a Trappist beer when the heavens decided to open with the biggest down pour and thunder storm I had seen that year. After waiting for that to pass we carried on, full of a meal that I'm still not even sure what it was (tasty though).

The next couple of days have blended into one a little bit as we passed through Breda, Dordrecht on our way to a campsite in the middle of Rotterdam, which we arrived at on a glorious day with plenty of time to explore the city... Which we did on our bikes and as a non native I can say it was pretty sketchy, especially as I kept forgetting which way I needed to look to not be wiped out by one of the thousands of bikes flying around. Oh and trams.

We woke early on the final day to give ourselves plenty of time to have a chill ride from Rotterdam to the Hook of Holland. So after one last campsite breakfast of coffee and porridge we set off on the 20ish miles to catch the ferry home.

An amazing trip with great company. There was only a brief half an hour when we were searching for an air BnB to replace our campsite that evening.

Peace, Morgan
